I just snowflaked $51 to American Express!

Posted on December 28, 2007. Filed under: American Express |

So I was roaming through the PF blogsphere earlier this week when I ran across the art of snowflaking by “Paid for this Twice.” With New Year’s resolutions around the corner, and also the realization yesterday that I am already getting rid of things I haven’t even finished paying for during the course of this move - I’m ready to change my way of thinking and try something different.

Enter snowflaking.
So basically I received a $29 bill in the mail if I want an annual PADI membership and another $12 bill to continue my subscription to MacWorld. Not doing those two things has saved me $41. That same $41 I immediately went and scheduled a payment to my AMEX for.
And then there was the $2.75 I saved at Chick Fil A last night by using a coupon. And the $7.58 I saved at the grocery store for using my savings card. This bumped up the AMEX snowflake to $51. Hmm. I really think this snowflaking thing is going to work for me!
Did I mention how much I hate American Express? First, they are absolutely wonderful when it comes to disputing a charge - they suspend the interest and credit it as soon as they get a resolution. However - a few months ago they cut down my limit on my business account from
$16,200 to just over $11,000. Whatever! Then I get a letter in the mail the other day that says they’re cutting off the Flexible Payment Feature of my AMEX Gold. So now everything I charge to that card must be paid in full at the end of the month. Great in theory. Not so great in practice. Thinking about dumping that card altogether since I got the USAA version with no annual fee. Then I could go snowflake the $140 annual fee!
Hmm. Let me go check in with Single Ma right now and see if she can help me with my credit card strategy…..
