2006 Financial Goals

Posted on February 5, 2006. Filed under: Credit and Debt, Refunds and Rebates, Roth IRAs |

OK, after reading Catlin’s blog and realizing I haven’t put my 2006 goals into writing either, I decided it was time to share mine. Because of the big breakup last month, (my choice) I have a feeling I’ll be stuck with about $6000 worth of his expenses. (Yes, I know, I was a fool.) I know I have a big load on my shoulders, with that and the house, but I don’t really have any other major bills, no car payment, no student loans, etc. While this $6000 completely SUCKS, I can promise you that it’s a lot better than living a lifetime with him. And I made about $100K on my house value since I bought it last April, so I can’t be too down on myself.

Anyway, my 2006 financial goals are as follows:

  • Pay off MBNA Credit Card ($3,300)
  • Pay down significantly (minimum 50%) Citibank Credit Card ($12,000)
  • Pay off $1500 interest free financing for living room furniture in November
  • Start making extra payments toward paying down my 2nd mortgage ($36,000)
  • Contribute the max ($4000) for 2006 to my Roth IRA

I know that’s a hefty To-Do list for this year, but since the Citibank debt is at 2 and 4 percent, it’s very do-able. Taking out home equity on my house is not something I’m going to consider - after all it doesn’t really PAY your debts, it just moves them.

Between that and the Income tax refund I’m going to receive this year, that should take out a pretty good chunk (at least most or all of the MBNA). And he just might pay me back the 6K, but I’m not holding my breathe on it. I am however, looking up an attorney.
